Yes! I have helped many cats throughout my career as a massage therapist.
Cats may take longer to work with because they are often skeptical of new people and require more patience. However, I always welcome feline patients!
Massaging your pet at home is a great way to bond, and to help him/her feel better!
As a Certified Canine Massage Therapist, I am educated in canine anatomy and physiology, have hands-on experience, and have knowledge of many conditions that can affect your pet. I perform a full body assessment, gait assessment, range of motion, and flexion test on our first visit, and look for tightness, trigger points, inflammation, and any other issues that may indicate a problem area. I then use techniques I have been trained on to help relieve negative symptoms.
Our first session can be from 1.5-2hours in length. It will start with me introducing myself to you and your dog. We will go over your dog's medical information, diet, any concerns you have, what you hope to achieve, and consent forms. I will then start by performing a full body assessment, gait assessment, range of motion, and flexion tests. Once those tests are done I will perform your dog's first body massage. The massage includes a variety of techniques and strokes.
You will receive a full copy of the assessments for your records on my second visit.
I offer both 30-minute and 60-minute sessions.
Each dog reacts differently to massage - especially the first few sessions. I find often by my 3rd or 4th visit the dog will come lay down, ready for the experience. Others can take a bit longer or need to get up and move positions before I can continue to work on them. It's important to me that your dog feels safe and comfortable at all times. I take the time to build a positive bond with them so they can fully enjoy their session and benefit from it.
You are more than welcome to stay in the room and watch the massage, or if you are busy or feel your presence will disrupt the massage and prefer not to stay in the room, that's fine as well.
The number of sessions varies, and we will discuss the best course of action based on your dog's health and assessments. I highly recommend bringing your veterinary team into the conversation and treatment plan.
A regular schedule is the most beneficial for maintaining lasting effects.
