I got my first German Shepherd Rogue when I was in college studying Business Administration at Conestoga College. She has been a STAPLE in my life through the best and worst times.
At 9 years old Rogue tore her ACL while playing. We went to the vet, did x-rays, and discussed surgery options. However, at her age, Rogue displayed signs of hip arthritis - something common with the breed. The amount of 'downtime' required for her ACL to heal after surgery would mean that her arthritis would get worse. It seemed I could treat one thing, but it would be a detriment to the other. There had to be alternative routes!
I searched and found Applied Biomechanics, and they made us a custom brace. This was perfect and helped provide the stability she needed when playing and walking. I found while the brace helped her return to normal activity she still had inflammation. I searched again for alternatives and found canine massage therapy. Knowing my girl would need this for the remainder of her life with me, I enrolled myself in the Royal Canadian Massage College in Toronto, Ontario. I hope to not only support my dog but to help other pet parents!
Canine massage therapy offers veterinary alternatives, holistic dog care and a form of dog physical therapy.
